RICHARD LAUTENS / TORONTO STAR FILE PHOTO Toronto police Const. Mandip Sandhu, pictured in 2012, has been sentenced to jail following his conviction for sexually assaulting a massage parlour worker.
A judge has sentenced Toronto police constable Mandip Sandhu to 15 months in jail and 2 years probation forsexually assaulting a masseuse.
While supposedly inspecting a North York spa in June 2010, Sandhu forced a 44-year-old masseuse to perform oral sex on him.
Provincial court Justice John Moore called the offence a “breach of trust” committed by an individual “who pledge to uphold the law.”
“Mr. Sandhu should have known that severe consequences would flow from his conduct,” Moore said during sentencing on Friday. “The public has to trust that the court will do its part to ensure offences like this won’t happen again.”
Sandhu was also ordered to seek counselling as directed, and was prohibited from owning weapons or contacting the victim, whose identity is protected by a publication ban. Sandhu’s name will be added to the registry of sex offenders.
