a relative of mine used to work in the ford factory in ontario, let's just say that the welding was not up to par for a long while

That's why American cars are cheaper and poor resale value, they skim on quality and QC more compares to others.

Just imagine, right after WW-II, American cars are really the BIG Three of the world, all the well-offs & CEO used US brands.

These days. the Big 3 will have to pay me to have a glance at them.  Forget about owning, just looking, they need to pay me.

Those Americans car companies had a few very bad employees and they can't fire them because of the union.  And some of those bad manufacturers car were touch by those employees
