I understand back in HK, they used to have traffic cops with white sleeves to indicate so.
Actually some cops are there even to direct traffic in the old movies.
Why does the North American Police do the same thing? Not to direct traffic when the lights will do.
The cost will be lower for the tax payer, no need to have gun training.
Whenever there is issue with the traffic congestion due to accidents, weather conditions (say flood or heavy snow) or road detours, some Traffic cops should be dispatched to direct the cars to go the proper detour, such as one exit before to tell people to exit and go through side streets.
Remember the Law Enforcement motto mostly used "Law and order". Order is a part of their job, to keep an orderly move of car traffic too.
Always got frustrated and felt helpless when some cops can help us to navigate the accident or congested area. Why waste all the LE resources for cops to sit in the court room and waiting to present a 2 minutes evidence, send them out to direct traffic, better still have a lesser trained (and therefore lower cost LE person) to do so. |
