Gear isn't that important, but I would say at least go with an interchangeable lens system, whether it's Micro 4/3, Sony, Sony, Nikon, etc. Depending no your tolerance to the size vs quality, it will dictate the type of camera you want. I used to be all Canon, loads of big Canon gear, and then now switched all to Panasonic Micro 4/3 system cuz I can't stand carrying around 20 pounds of gear anymore.

The micro 4/3 system is a love it or hate it kind of thing. You can argue that it has the best of both worlds; better image quality than your smartphone, less bulky than SLR. Or you can also argue that it has worst of both worlds; bulkier than your smartphone, not as good image quality as SLR. I personally don't like the system. I rely on my smartphone for everyday snapshots, and when I want to go shoot some nice pix I will bring my DSLR. That's just me though.

Again it depends on your tolerance on the weight. I am lazy now so the 4/3 system works for me. I actually like the Sony system as the sensor is larger, but the problem is the lack of lens selection.
i am thinking to get either Canon 5d mark iii or sony a7 ii, which is a better chose? hint i am buying for my first camera i have no shooting exp. and no lens so any advise will be greatly appreciate thanks
