That's Warren Buffett's philosophy too, slow and boring wins the race.  He did mention most people want to get rich quick.

It depends which index and how you invest in it. If you donleverage etfs like tqqq or sqqq, you can gain and lose a lot in a short period of time.

Except you don't want to hold leveraged ETFs for long. I don't touch those tbh.

Yes, leveraged etfs have a decaying factor. Not wise to hold long term.

Stay away from any leveraged ETFs if the market it going sideways and like other says not a buy and hold instrument due to decaying factor.  Also, if you bet the wrong side cut your losses and run.
Its basically like options just less leveraged and more accessiable.
