Due to protests from State and Fed politicians , Amazon decided a no go with the 25K jobs to locate in NYC.
In return for those jobs, Amazon would receive 3 Bn tax credit or incentives. That was the reason of objection. Anyone can create jobs anywhere and do not think any politician would really reject.
This is a lesson to be learned by TO.
Cities like NYC, SF, LA and Seattle are NOT having a job problem, but a LIVING problem due to high value of mortgage or rents. Those are no longer Middle Income cities. All low paying jobs are taken by people who have a LONG commute to go to work there.
Think TO, if jobs are still located downtown or midtown areas, those worker cannot afford to live there.
Now if those jobs are in Kitchener/Waterloo or Oshawa (without GM now) area, workers might be willing to take a pay cut to work there, as the cost of living and commuting is not such a big issue.
Jobs in popular and expensive areas are NO JOBS at all.
I have relative who is not willing to work in downtown TO and would take a pay cut to work in GTA instead. |
