Remembering Anthony Bourdain 1956-2018

No one is like Anthony Bourdain,  no show like Parts Unknown.

CNN was supposed to be a NEWS station, and for some strange reason in 2012, they decided to put on the show PARTS UNKNOWN.

There is Food , but it is NOT a Food show.  There is Travel, but it is NOT a Travel show.

2016 he was in Vietnam for taping an episode and there Obama happened to be there for a meeting and sure enough Obama asked to have a few minutes to eat with Tony in a street food stall over beer (no glass, just the bottle) and noodle dish.  There was this interview with the president of US.

He traveled to all the interesting countries to showcase the regular street people.  He was a good STORY TELLER.  Used the food and beer/wine to connect with everybody.  Ate exotic food like chicken feet and tripe among other things.  Funny that a chef for almost 30 years with the last chef years mainly in FINE DINING with table cloths.   Was in countries with turmoil like Libya, Iran, Myanmar (Burma), probably not North Korea.

Just last week I sought out to watch the episode on Hong Kong.  Hoped to see a few good dishes he enjoyed there.  Kind of disappointed that not much in that area.  But as usual, he did the story telling about HONG KONG.  Not about the independent movement in Hong Kong politics.

He was one with empathy, connected with people easily.  Dropped out of Vassar College after 2 years and went to culinary school and started out as a dishwasher.  Was a heroin addict as a teenager or young adult.  He expressed the concern that being an addict might cause a death somewhere in Colombia from the drug cartel wars to control and profit from his addiction.

Had a daughter when he was around 50, so the young daughter is still NOT a teenager yet.

He is a refreshing appearance among all those fake news on TV.  
If TRUMP had a reality show,  then Parts Unknown is a true reality show, not a FAKE ONE.

Unfortunately he is the second one to pass away recently after Kate Spade of their own hands.

So life is SHORT and enjoy the journey.
