USA beat Chile 3 - 0, but I missed the game because my kids (grown-ups now) treated me with a Father's Day lunch when the game was in progress.
Anyway, I wish to take this opportunity to talk about pay equality movement started by USWNS which might affect the future of the sport.
US Women National Soccer Team filed a law suit against USA's Soccer governing body a few months back re pay inequality between the men's and women's team despite NWS performed better than men.....
What these women soccer players don't understand is that who actually pays the athletes:
1. Advertisers and sponsors. If the sport has a lot of spectators, advertisers and sponsors will also be willing to spend the money to get brand exposure.
USNWS has only "2 or 3 small cats (小貓兩三隻)" spectators, of course advertisers and sponsors are not willing to invest/throw away their money.
2. Revenue from Paid Spectators. Identical to "1" above.
If the Governing Body agrees to these women players' demands, for sure it will go bankrupt simply because there is not enough money from the sport of Women Soccer.
It is a matter of common sense which the women soccer players lack right now.
If they want equal pay, then they should play the "equal game", i.e. play in the men's league, and see how they do. If the women soccer players can beat all-male teams, then of course they deserve the same salary or better.
Have you heard of male hockey players demanding same salary as male baseball or basketball players?
