Why Electoral College to elect President ?

Good old days, before computer age, it is very hard to get results of total votes in USA election quickly.

So they just separate the state with number of electoral college votes based on the state population count.
Then just total up the states electoral college votes for final count to elect the president.

Notice that last 6 out of 7 presidential votes favor Democrats, but they could lose with Majority votes with a  president elected less than majority votes.  Case in point, Hilary got 67 mm votes and DT got 63 mm votes.

If they change to total votes instead of electoral college votes by states, then DT will NEVER win.
