After the Italian F-1 GP, Hamilton has a lead of 30 points Vs Vettel in the Championship standing. This is HUGE and almost impossible for Vettel to overcome in the remaining 7 races.
Why is that so? For each race, the winner gets 25 points while the runner-up gets 17, an 8-point difference.
30 points divide into 7 races, roughly 4+ races. Granted Ferrari's engine is more powerful than MB this year, even if Hamilton does not win and Vettel wins at least 4 races in the remaining races, but as long as Hamilton can come in 2nd, he is still ahead for the final showdown of 3 races.
Don't forget:
1. Hamilton is a more consistent driver than Vettel (not to mention a better driver). So far Vettel's dirty driving handicaps only himself. In short, Vettel is more prone to making mistakes than Hamilton.
2. There are other drivers who want to have a say in the Championship race, particularly Kimi who wants to prove Ferrari Management wrong by not signing him for at least one more year (please refer #82 for my views).
(So far, Ferrari hasn't sign any driver yet. By not offering a ride to a race-proven, former F-1 champion like Kimi, who has been driving better than Vettel in the last 6 race, in my view is bordering on a personal insult.)
We will see but I think Hamilton has already locked up 2018's Championship! |
