It is now legal to use radar detector in ONT to beat LE's radar guns.  Unit price in C$ is about $110, as long as you can avoid one speeding ticket, you have already more than broken even!

If you enjoy driving and usually at higher speed than the , unrealistically low speed limit, get one now while discount is on!!!

These days cops don't use radar guns to detect speedsters, they use laser. At least this is the case in GTA, i cannot say for sure for other jurisdictions.

My detector unit arrived today via courier.

1.  Made in China, shipped from Shenzhen.
2.  Not yet "battle-tested".  Must find a speed trap and drive by it several times to see if it would set off an alarm.
3. The unit measures roughly 1-3/8" thick, 4" long, and 2-1/2" wide.
4. Less than 1/2 lb. in weight.

Will keep you all posted once I have it tested.

I think the reason they are now letting people legally own radar detectors is because they have upgraded their technology to laser detectors.

I don't know if all traffic cops have upgraded their tech, or whether a mix of old and new tech is still used across the GTA, but having taken speeding tickets to court twice in the past 3 years, in both cases they were using LIDAR according to the evidence disclosure which the prosecutor was required by law to provide me.

Here's some information regarding laser vs radar tech for speed detection.

Too many cases were being dropped because the defendants successfully argued that radar detectors were inaccurate so they upgraded to laser which has a exponentially lower probability of error.

With radar, a good detector will be able to warn you before the radar gets a lock on which gives you a few precious moments to slow down. With laser, you will only detect it when it detects you, which means its too late.

Wow, so the upgrading of the equipment is true? It may be easily caught if speeding in the future.
