I guess I never ran into F/H/I, and J for me is negligible since I had always bought used. (Only lost 5k on the last car after 6 years of ownership) A set of tire for $650, lasts good 80k km, used winter tires for $100 a set. Although I just bought a new truck and I anticipate the ownership cost will rise significantly.
If you have a $5-$10k used Civic, base on the estimate will be
A. $10.00 ($120/year)
B. $108.00
C. $170.00 (at 20k km, 7l/100km, $1.4/l)
D. $17.00
E. n/a
F. n/a
G. n/a
H. n/a
I. $16.00 ($650 set of new tires for 15" rims, 80k at 20k per year, 650/4/12 = $13.5, + 100/4/12 = $2.0)
J. $100.00 (used will depreciate much slower, $1000 a year roughly for the model I used)
k. $100.00 ($1000 repair a year estimate. Personally, through ten years of car ownership, my repair bill came out to be less than $3000)
This estimate will bring the monthly cost at $521.00. And since most people would have already spent the cash up front on the purchase, it's more in the neighborhood of $400.00 per month on upkeep and if you are lucky on the repairs, could even be less than that.
Of course, this will vary significantly depending on your vehicle, usage, driving record and luck. I have known people who drove beater cars with 300k km without issue and those who had major repairs at 80k km. (*cough *cough, Audi)
I do agree that car ownership is expensive, and if OP thinks $30 emission is expensive, then it is likely not for you at the moment.
