What are the handbags for?

If you think that a handbag is to hold contents for ladies who has no pockets to hold them, you are only half right.

I had my way, I would give a Plastic handbag like the ones issued to Casino dealers to use.
Put whole bunch of Big bills on the plastic to walk around and show it off.

That is basically what luxury brand like Hermes, Chanel, Gucci etc mean to girls.  No one in their right mind will thnk that thousands of dollars for a handbag will make them last for ever (not a chance) or more features to put their stuff in (like iPhone revolutionize every thing).  
Just to SHOW OFF.

One girl expressed she will do anything just to BUY A HANDBAG.
Come on, be realistic. That is pure vanity.  Wake up.

I bought one of my GFs chanel before, she liked it and gave me something else for reciprocity.
However, I more appreciate girls who prefer REAL VALUE to SYMBOLIC VALUE
my another friend never purchased any luxury bags, not even Coach, she liked movies and likes smiling.

Like they said, 'luxury is for people who have low self-esteem and low self-worth.'
there exist some people who do no have self-confidence, that is the very reason luxurious brands from Paris can survive.

If one (either a girl or man) has strong self-worth, self-confidence and spiritual life, he/she won't be that obsessed with luxury brands.

I value the REAL things in life instead of merely those 'symbol's which seemingly add something to my face

SHOW OFF = Kind of exaggerated materials that used for attraction or to enhance self-esteem!  Similar for meal worth $150 which people pay for $600!

Like Bro W said, confidence is the key word.  No need to show off if one is confident.

I never bought luxury brands even when I can afford, see no value to it.
Once got a gold Rolex worth 10K (real gold , not plated) and gave my sister instead.  Do not like to wear it.

Once I worked at Chanel in Toronto as a sales representative.
guess what.
A lot of chinese students drop by the store to buy perfume / cosmetics /shoes /watches/limited editions..
Seldom local Canadians drop by the store
luxurious brand is supported by people who are rich but not self confident enough
otherwise they would think themselves are already top brands,

some of my friends go to Paris to study the management of luxurious brands.
They like luxuries and wanna lead that kind of life.
U won't thoroughly understand luxurious brands unless you visit Paris.
Those french people are smart , they understand the psychology of the targeted consumers so well.

Don't judge. So what if its show off? Most people like to show off in one way or another.

Lots of men like expensive cars. Why? The car gets you from point A to point B. A cheap reliable Corolla can do the job. Why buy a car that cost the down payment of a house? There are even some cars that cost more than a house. Limited edition supercars cost over more than a million USD. Why the hell would anyone need 500+ hp to drive on regular roads?

Talking about houses. Why do people buy mansions? I can't imagine needing a 20+ bedrooms, 10+ bathrooms, my own full size olympic pool, home theatre that can sit 50+ ppl, etc etc.

Or how about Swiss mechanical watches that cost as much as cars? I can get a $20 Casio watch that does a better / more accurate job of telling time along with other features.

Why buy jewelry? Thousands of dollars just for a piece of carbon rock on your finger. De Beers has been running that biggest scam of all time with their "a diamond is forever" claim.

The short answer is, all these things (and a lot of other things) are simply status symbols. Handbags are status symbols almost exclusively for women, so men think its vain, but a lot of material goods we want are equally vain. Vanity is human nature.
