One thing that I would stress is the FLOW of traffic on MAJOR roads.
NYC has these N-S major roads, especially 1st and 2nd Ave, got LOTS of traffic lights.
Guess what, the flow is speedy.
Why, they synchronize the LIGHTS to make sure cars moving a constant speed to CONTINUE experiencing green light for the next one. Basically not timing the lights from side streets to impact the light changes.
Mind you, one way street helps too.
It is so frustrating to drive in Metro that you pass one green and get stopped by next red. The timing caused the speed to really slow down. I would mind if my current red light takes longer to turn green.
But please let the coming light green once I get there. Ignore the cars coming from side streets to influence the major road lights. If you were the one from the side street, so what if you spent another 1 minute waiting, realizing that once on the major road , you will have clear sailing.
Can we get some help to time the lights properly? |
