US presidential and congressional election is a so called DEMOCRACY, not really one man one vote.
Good old days, constitution is trying to give fairer weight to rural areas more say as well as ease of voter counting. Popular vote counting may not be feasible and efficient in a short time.
Now it becomes apparent that concentration of liberals in cities and the wealth associated with the population may not be the main factor to get some one elected, witness the TRUMP event. He lost by 3 million popular votes. The uneducated and rural people got him there.
Actually, that might as well as for the better. With divided government of past few years, nothing gets done except for naming the new (very few now) name for post office and deferred again and again important budget bills (kicking the can down the road trick).
Republicans will from now on be in control of government, democrats will be in City government.
