They explain
CDS. credit default swap (if I am not mistaken, could be something other than CDS discussed).
MBS. mortgage backed securities.
Mortgage backed security package a bunch of mortgage and secularized them to sell to investors. Divide up the package into different trenches for different investors of the SAME package with different risk levels.
Wall street people loved it as everyone wants it and no one thinks that housing market will collapse and owner cannot pay back monthly mortgage (sell it when you cannot afford it and still makes money as price of house kept on going up.).
Credit default swap. Selling insurance contracts for underlying securities. Like insuring your car for accidents.
Only funny thing is you INSURE someone else car and you can have multiple people insuring your car and wish that you will crash so they will collect the money. Risky asset, higher premium, but if crash, every insurer will get money, that collapse AIG (biggest insurer).
