Let me take stab at this. (no pun intended)
First of all, I don't think most 援交 girls would want to be reviewed. Furthermore, while its hard (once again no pun intended) to erect (no pun... ok fine... pun is intended this time) a clear definition because for sure there's signification overlap between the 2 categories, I think these are the main differences between "援交" and "私做":
援交: generally young, usually students
私做: generally older, anywhere from late 20s to 60+
援交: part-time & short-term; they do this sporadically, perhaps to buy a designer bag or something
私做: full-time & long-term; this is their primary career
援交: pick & choose her customers; may reject customers based on looks / age / etc
私做: accepts all customers (except under very special circumstances)
援交: non-professional, don't expect good service, many restrictions
私做: professional, expect reasonably good service
援交: relatively inexperienced and new to the industry
私做: well experienced and have likely worked in an agency before going independent (after learning the tricks of the trade)
援交 = 援助交際 = compensated dating
私做 = 私人 (沒經agent) 地做工作 = independently operating MM
The above distinctions are merely guidelines, and not meant to be exact scientific definitions; for sure there are exceptions.
