STEPHEN HENDRY - THE STORY:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlV_kDJWK8k
For non-snooker players, you may not recognize the name. So allow me to "introduce" the rise of the popularity of snooker and the names associated with the sport.
Snooker has been around for some time, it was usually played by some rowdy, half drunk guys in local pubs in UK until the advent of colour TV which brought along its live telecast. Currently, the professional players all wear bow ties & white shirts, well-groomed & clean shaven. What a change!
Just imagine a green felt table, a white ball (cue ball), 15 red balls, one each of yellow, green, brown, blue, pink & black, & only a colour TV can bring the best colour contrast in this exciting game.
The last frame of a World Championship Final between Steve Davis & Dennis Taylor kept everyone awake well past mid-night!
Steve Davis dominated the sport for a number of years from the late 70's to the mid 80's (the "bridesmaids" during that era had been Jimmy White & Alex (Hurricane) Higgin). Both JW & AH were talented & natural snooker players, but they lacked the temperament of SD. Oh yes, AH crowned himself as the "People's Champ" .
SD was dethroned by Steve Hendry, who like SD, dominated the game for about 10 years, & was the youngest World Champion.
Then came Ronnie O'Sullivan who was unbeatable until the last two years.
