If the problem is getting scam calls after using your real phone number, what difference does it make whether you call or text?

The point is not to use your personal phone number to contact service providers. Calling or texting makes no difference. Spend a few extra bucks and buy yourself a prepaid phone card that is not registered under your legal name.
