That's a bit harsh bro.

The "landmine" label should be reserved for those totally outrageous bullshit ads where they claim to be a 19 year old girl / student but actually give you a 40 year old woman, or those ones that use fake pics of models from the internet but insist those are real pics of the MM.

This one doesn't seem that bad. I mean its true PS-ed pics are bit deceiving, but lets face it, no ads will ever be totally honest. And at this price point, this is about par, or even a bit above par. I've seen much worse MMs at much higher prices than this.

it's a landmine when you feel like you have been tricked...

Beg to differ.

It should be about how bad they actually tricked you instead of how much you felt cheated.

Some bros have unrealistic expectations, and this is not the fault of the service provider. Or they might be newbies who expect everything to be literally exactly as the ad says, and if its even slightly off, they feel like they got severely cheated.

The term "landmine" should be reserved for severe cases, and not to be thrown around at the slightest dissatisfaction, otherwise the term will become meaningless.

Imagine 2 scenarios:

#1 - There's a local burger joint that sells hamburgers for $2.99, on their ads their slogan is "we serve the best burgers". So you try one, and its an okay burger, but you wouldn't call it the best you've ever eaten in your entire life. The actual burger also doesn't look quite as good as the one shown on their ad.

#2 - There's a new burger joint that sells hamburgers for $99.99. To justify the price, they claim that their chef is a world-renown Michelin star chef, and their burger patties are made with genuine Kobe beef imported from Japan. They also promise that each burger is prepared with fresh organic ingrediants, and comes topped with foie gras and truffles. Its expensive but sounds so good that you can't resist trying one. Lo and behold, the burger is terrible! The bun is stale, the beef they use a cheap grade of beef that is dry and flavorless, even the lettuce is yellow and wilted, and there isn't any foie gras or truffles at all. You later find out their chef is just the local highschool drop-out ex-convict who had no prior cooking experience.

Now you tell me, which of these 2 scenarios can be fairly described as a rip off?

I don't think any reasonable person would consider #1 a rip off. And even if someone did, it wouldn't be fair to use the same label "landmine" or "rip off" or whatever for both cases as they are clearly very different.

What I'm trying to get at is, we should differentiate between real landmines (cases of severe misrepresentation) vs minor cases where expectations weren't completely satisfied.

I mean, if someone tried to make a big stink out of the fact that the Big Mac they ordered didn't look every bit as good as the Big Mac shown in Mcd's commericals, people would probably laugh at him for being stupid and unrealistic.

If we were to label as landmine every MM who wasn't completely 100% honest/accurate in their advertising, we'd have to label 100% of them as landmines.

Since we live in an imperfect world where there are 2 groups of MMs; those who are not completely honest, and those who are completely dishonest; lets at least give the former group a little bit of credit. Otherwise we risk making them think "why even bother trying to be somewhat honest if we still get labelled the same as those who are completely dishonest".
