I try to learn pool/billard via youtube (and follow with practicing), so far, I read two aiming methods namely, Ghost ball and Center to Edge (CTE). It seems to me that Ghost ball is the basic technique and easier for novice to pickup. Any comments? Which method do you use when learn to pay pool/billard?

I'm new to this sport and is still learning. I started with Ghost method too, then I found CTE on youtube, hence would like to hear what others in here said.

No matter whether you want to play snooker, pool, or billiard, you must practise often to improve, not viewing videos.

To play well, you must:

1.   Buy a good cue.  Forget about the N. American made garbage!  Good cues use ash wood and can last generations, they are made in UK.  You only need to change the cue tip from time to time (learn how to do it).
A good cue can cost upwards of C$1000!
2.  Have a good stance.  This will include how you place your hand on the table, the feet on the ground, bending of the legs, the grip, and a straight cue action.

I haven't played for a long time but can still play an above average game.

Basically when you aim, there are 9 spots to push the cue ball (the white ball) towards the object ball, like:

When you push the cue ball on the top row (left to right), the cue ball will continue moving forward after hitting the object ball.
When you push the middle row cue ball just under the centre spot, the cue ball will stop on the spot after hitting the object ball.
When you push the bottom row cue ball, plus follow through with the cue action, the cue ball will screw back.
When you push the cue ball at any of the spots on the left and right column, you are applying "side".  The Americans call it "English", e.g.  right hand side = right hand English.
The cue ball will react differently depending where you apply the "side".

Remember to "chalk" the cue tip before applying side to give the cue tip a better grip.

Talking will NOT improve your game, you must play regularly!  It is like having sex, practice makes perfection, or close to it!

Thank you. Understood, hence in my original post I had "I try to learn pool/billard via youtube (and follow with practicing). I got all the basic techniques that you mentioned in the second post.

However. I'm interested in which aiming method I should be focus on. While I am still learning/practicing the Ghost ball method, I found the CTE. I just wonder should I switch to focus on CTE or I must know Ghost ball method first. I just don't want to spend time on one and end up the newer one is better (or should be the one to use).
