Ever crazy US shooting (now in California)

Just saw news about 14 dead and 14 at least injured in San B. Cal.  It is absolutely crazy that it is so easy to get firearms here, thanks to NRA influence.  How many people do you need to kill every month here in US before they will ban automatic weapons, all in the name of freedom and right to bear arms.  Hunting rifle yes, but others ?  Hand gun may be needed for some one living in the rural area where there is little police protection.  No matter what Obama wants, they will NEVER get any ban for firearms, unlike Canada, England and other civilized countries.   
As a matter of fact, the city I live in has a lot of shootings and death as a result.  But because it is mainly between blacks and especially the ones dealing in drugs, no one really cares here.
I only live 8 miles from the shootings and does not bother us at all.
