Finally it takes a disaster to get TRUMP to be bipartisan and therefore screwing up the fellow Republicans.

Republicans want to raise the debt ceiling for 18 months so that the MID term election will not have debt ceiling extension as a road block for the voters.

Both parties know that delaying the Harvey $8 billion fund will mean trouble for any party.  Tie that funding with the debt ceiling for 18 months will ensure Republican getting better mid term election outcome (ie,  less loss of seats).

Trump want to get credit for the Harvey relief and does not want to hold up it with a long fight in Congress.   So he made a deal to have 3 months extension as requested by Democrats, screwing up Republican leadership in so doing.

Now Republican will have a guarantee for BIGGER loss of seats next year mid term election,  hahaha.

Main reason that TRUMP did this is because the SO CALLED Republican Party is no longer pure repuplicans.
They have something called Freedom Party faction that is against anything money spending, for small government and different from traditional Republican which is Center Right vs Democrats Center Left.
That faction is like Far Right and getting stronger.   
So in order for TRUMP to get the relief bill passed, he really had no choice but to go forward.  No using the relief bill to tag on other items Republicans want to get through at the same time as a piggy back, and I think anything to do with BUDGET has to be passed with more than just a majority in the senate, which had filibuster rule to delay the passing for a long time.

So the debt ceiling is going to be revisited again in three months, like kicking the can down a few months, not finished.

This is politics and social issue.

Not really economics.  US has too vast of resources, human and otherwise.  But lots of problems, namely guns and health insurance, as well as government.

U.S. economy survives on borrowed money - government bonds!

Holders of these bonds are creditors (債主) who buy these "papers" based on trust, once they don't buy or ask for collateral before buying, the U.S. government is in shit trouble!

Every country is based on BORROWED money.  Name one that is not?

Creditors could be foreign, but mainly domestic.
Houses are biggest item of all for general public,  Interest expenses and defense and social security are the bigger items for Government.  But look at all the land the government own, say US and China.  Once Tokyo can auction of a small piece of land and pay for Empire State Building or whatever.

The Canadian Government gets $ from domestic dummies!

Trump did it again,  dinner in WH with democrats and NO REPUBLICANS to get a deal out.
He is going to have issue with Congressional Republicans Leadership if he keeps on doing this.
