It started out with flirty text messages, progressed to a romantic stroll on a Florida beach — and ended with a carjacking.
According to an article in the Sun Sentinel, a 21-year-old Florida woman told Boynton Beach police she went on a blind date with a 19-year-old man she’d been exchanging text messages and photos with. They agreed to meet Friday night.
They went for a stroll along the beach, then headed to a Wendy’s parking lot in the woman’s car to wait for her date’s brother to pick him up.
That’s when he allegedly pulled out a gun and ordered his date out of the car.
The woman leapt out of the car and ran to a nearby gas station to call police, and her date tore off in her 2000 Honda Civic.
Police soon caught up with the runaway and flipped on their lights and sirens, but the man refused to stop. He eventually lost control of the car and tried to flee on foot, but was promptly corralled by the K-9 unit.
And because he hadn’t humiliated his date enough yet, he told police she had tried to carjack him and that he had fled in fear for his life.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t explain why he didn’t stop when chased. Oh, and also the gun. He couldn’t explain the handgun officers say they found, either.
Donald Bernard McGee Jr. faces several charges, including carjacking, possession of marijuana and driving without a valid license.
The young woman got her Honda Civic back. And probably deleted all of her text messages.
